Year one: check!

IMG_0946Sometimes, the biggest changes and accomplishments in life are too large and widespread to be noticed on a day-to-day basis, but become clear only when you step back and take in the full picture.

It’s been like that, this year. So busy, day to day, that we haven’t often have a chance to look up and see the whole of what we’ve accomplished so far.

Wow, though. When you do step back, when you do look up from the laptop or the smartphone, or the paintbrush…it’s a bit overwhelming.

We went from a successful Kickstarter campaign to developing an impressive initial collection of footwear, to creating a website, to being picked up right off the bat by some of the more impressive local and national print, web, radio and television media around.

In the last 365 days, we’ve been interviewed by Forbes, Out Magazine, Bon Appetit, Women’s Wear Daily (twice), Daily Candy, The Hairpin, and a ridiculously impressive list of others that is too long to list.

We were also commissioned to design shoes for Lady Gaga, painted Miss Washington’s platforms for the Miss America pageant, and provided custom heels for Jinkx Monsoon to wear on the RuPaul’s Drag Race finale (she won!). These Cadillac shoes were pretty sweet, too.

We’ve been part of bridal shows, women’s expos, trunk shows, holiday events, festivals, fashion shows, photo shoots and a dozen happy hours. We travelled to New York for a conference that, while rather disappointing in and of itself, allowed us to meet some awesome women, and set up some great connections. We’ve partnered with countless charities and non-profits through donations, and through our “We’ve got iss(shoes)” program. We went from unknown to having 35,000+ Facebook fans. We were asked to be the subject of a reality show. Yes, really.

We said no.

It has been quite the year.

So where does Hourglass Footwear go from here? Oh, we’ve got plans up our sleeves. Some major, game-changing plans, in fact.

Ahem. They’re top secret, of course. So until then…it’s time for a party! Please join us at the studio tonight for wine, birthday cake, giveaways, good company, and a ton of fabulous shoes.

We’d like to stand back and toast this huge success of a year with our ever-faithful friends and supporters (that’s you).
